Hanneman started internationally for the first time at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2008 in Mals and finished 92nd place over 10 km classic and 77th place in the sprint. In November 2008 he ran in West Yellowstone for the first time in the US Super Tour and achieved 20th place over 15 km classic. He made his debut in the cross-country skiing world cup in February 2010 in Canmore , which finished in 70th place in the sprint. At the U23 World Championships 2011 in Otepää he came in 24th place in the sprint and at the U23 World Championships in 2012 in Erzurum on the 33rd place in the sprint. At the beginning of the 2012/13 season, he took his first victory in the US Super Tour in the sprint in Bozeman . This was followed by two podium finishes and fifth overall at the end of the season. The following season he won the overall ranking of the US Super Tour with eight top ten finishes. At the World Cup final in Falun , he achieved 37th place. After finishing 92nd at the Lillehammer Tour at the beginning of the 2014/15 season, he finished eight times in the top ten of the US Super Tour and thus achieved sixth place in the overall ranking of the US Super Tour. In the 2015/16 season he achieved four second places and one first place fifth in the US Super Tour overall ranking. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , he ran into 14th place with the relay.
His brother Logan is also active in cross-country skiing.
