The Refuge d'Argentière (also Argentière hut ) is a mountain hut of the Club Alpin Français in the French department of Haute-Savoie .

Location and access

The Refuge d'Argentière is located in the eastern Mont-Blanc group at 2771  m at the southwestern foot of the Aiguille d'Argentière . The Glacier d'Argentière runs west of the hut .

The hut is reached from Argentière . The ascent is usually done with the help of the Croix de Lognan cable car (middle station of the Aiguille-de-Grand-Montet cable car), from there over the lateral moraine to the Glacier d'Argentière and on over the glacier to the hut. Other options are the ascent directly from Argentière or the ascent from the Aiguille des Grands Montets via the Glacier des Rognons, which is mainly used in winter.

Summit tours

The hut serves as a base for numerous mountain companies of all kinds in the area.

Several tours on the Aiguille d'Argentière , such as the normal route over the Glacier du Milieu, the west flank which leads to the north-west ridge, the Y-Couloir (south couloir) or the Jardingrat (south-west ridge) can be reached from the Refuge d'Argentière. The Tour Noir can still be reached via the normal route (south-east flank), as can the west flank on Mont Dolent .

On the opposite side of the Glacier d'Argentière are the north faces of the Aiguille de Triolet - Les Courtes - Les Droites - Aiguille Verte mountain range , over which numerous well-known extreme climbs lead, such as the Verte das Couturiercouloir and the Cordiercouloir; the classic north face and the Voie Jackson on the Droites; the Swiss guide to the Courtes or the Gréloz-Roch to the Aiguille de Triolet.

In winter, the hut serves as a starting point for ski tours and as a possible base for the famous Haute Route ski tour crossing .
