The Tour Noir is just under two kilometers southeast of the Aiguille d'Argentière , from which it over the 3534 m above sea level. M. high Col du Tour Noir is separated. To the south, the Mont Dolent joins via the Aiguilles Rouges du Dolent . The French-Swiss border runs over the ridge. The Glacier d'Argentière runs west of this ridge . In the northeast lies the Glacier de Saleina , to the east the Glacier de l'A Neuve , both of which lead into the Val Ferret . The actual summit structure is rocky and consists of a double summit.
Climbing opportunities
The normal route runs over the southeast flank, which can be reached both from the Refuge d'Argentière and from the Cabane de l'A Neuve via the Passage d'Argentière . The route was first climbed on August 3, 1876 by Emile Javelle and FF Turner with the guides Joseph Mooser and François Fournier, which is also the first ascent of the Tour Noir.
Other routes taken are the north ridge (PD, II) and the west ridge (AD, III).
The Tour Noir is often used as a transition between the Refuge d'Argentière and the Cabane de l'A Neuve.
