The Reger Choir is a project choir that was founded by Gabriel Dessauer in Wiesbaden in 1985 and has been directed by him ever since. Since 2001 it has been expanded to the Reger-Chor-International in collaboration with Ignace Michiels , organist of the Sint-Salvatorskathedraal in Bruges , to perform an annual concert of mostly sacred, rarely performed music for choir and organ both in Germany and in Belgium. Concerts take place regularly in St. Bonifatius, Wiesbaden and in the Cathedral of Bruges, irregularly also in other churches of the two countries and in the Concertgebouw (concert hall) Bruges.

Gabriel Dessauer (born 1955) has been cantor at St. Bonifatius in Wiesbaden since 1981 . In 1985 he called choristers together to perform a single work, the Hebbel Requiem by Max Reger in the organ version by the Munich organist and composer Max Beckschäfer . The concert on October 16, 1985 was part of the Wiesbaden International Organ Concerts , which also presented organists such as Roger Fisher, Judit Hajdók and Maurice Clerc on the Walcker organ of the Marktkirche in Wiesbaden, which Reger himself had played during his time in Wiesbaden from 1891 . Gabriel Dessauer conducted, Beckschäfer was the organist. The project is considered to be the foundation of the Reger Choir.

It got its name in 1988 when the next project was dedicated to the German premiere of Joseph Jongen's Missa op. 111 for choir, brass and organ, which was performed in the collegiate church in Aschaffenburg and in St. Bonifatius in Wiesbaden. Later projects included one of the first performances in Germany of John Rutter's Requiem in 1990 , recorded live on the Reger Choir's first CD .

In 2001 an international collaboration began with the organist Ignace Michiels , which brings together roughly the same number of choristers from Flanders and the Rhine-Main area to perform an annual concert in Germany and Belgium.
