Reg Grundy

Reginald Roy Grundy , AC , OBE (born Reginald Roy Grundle , short name Reg Grundy ; born August 4, 1923 in Sydney ; † May 6, 2016 in Bermuda ) was an Australian media and TV mogul.

Life

Reginald Roy Grundy was the only child of the Australians Roy Grundlestein and Lillian Lees. Prior to his television career, he served in the Australian Army during World War II and was stationed as a non-commissioned officer in Sydney.

In 1960 he founded the Reg Grundy Organization (later Grundy Light Entertainment ), but continued to work as a sports commentator and quiz master. After building his own production company, he began producing game shows for the Australian and international markets before moving into film production with his company in 1973.

The company then produced numerous successful soap operas for television and so-called drama series , such as Class of '74 , The Restless Years , The Young Doctors , Prisoner , Glenview High , Sons and Daughters and Neighbors , as well as those known in the 1980s NBC game shows Time Machine , $ ale of the Century for the US market and Scrabble . 1993 went on the air for NBC Scattergories .

Many programs were also exported, for example a German version of $ ale of the Century was broadcast as Hopp or Top from 1990 to 1993 .

He later also founded Reg Grundy Productions in the United States. In 1995 he sold the Grundy organization to the media and publishing company Pearson PLC .

He was married to the actress and writer Joy Chambers , who starred in several of his soap operas. Most recently they lived on the Bermuda Islands. Grundy owned the yacht Boadicea .
