Hopp oder Top was a quiz show from 1990 to 1992 on Tele 5 or 1993 on DSF , produced by Reg Grundy Produktion in the ARRI studios in Munich - Schwabing .

Original formats

The original format, Sale of the Century , originally spelled $ ale of the Century , aired in the United States from 1969 to 1974 and 1983 to 1989. The Australian TV mogul Reg Grundy , who already from 1970 to 1976 a similar format under the title Great Temptation ( Large temptation ) in Australia had produced, bought the format and produced it in 1980 under the title again. The show became the most successful Australian game show to date, with 4610 episodes in 21 years . It was broadcast in local versions in Great Britain (1971–83, 1989/90, 1997/8), New Zealand (1989–93, 1995), Paraguay (1997/8), Turkey (1995–8) and Germany , during the game and mostly even the studio design analogous to the Australian 1980s version. From 2005 to 2009 it was broadcast again under the title Temptation in Australia , as well as in 2006 in South Africa and Nigeria and in 2007/8 in the USA. In Brazil , the show ran in the 60s and 70s under the title So Compra Quem Tem ( So whoever buys ), from 1995 to 2010 as Tentacao ( temptation ). Greece initially called the 1994/5 show Aφεv ז іκό Tρελάθηκε ( The boss has gone crazy ), 1997/98 it was broadcast under the original title. There were only short cycles in Hong Kong (1982), Mexico (1998) and India (2004, super sale , super sale ).

Chronicle Hopp or Top

The presenter of the German program was initially the actor Andreas Similia , but after broadcasts in April 1991 he was replaced by the former radio presenter Thomas "Thomy" Aigner . After Tele 5 became DSF on January 1, 1993, the actor Hermann Toelcke took over a few more episodes until DSF stopped the show due to a lack of compatibility with its sports program. The former model Angelika (civil: Angela) Petersen remained the assistant for the entire time, while Stephan Lehmann was initially off-speaker .

ARRI studios in Munich, production location of Hopp or Top

Broadcasting time was from Monday to Saturday from around 8:30 p.m. In mid-1991, the show was brought forward to 7:45 p.m., with the broadcasting time extending from 30 to 45 minutes gross to 7:30 p.m. The program was last broadcast on Tele 5 at 7:35 p.m. until the end of 1992. The Saturday episode was omitted at the end. The program was recorded with applause from the tape without a studio audience, because the presentation of the prizes (car, etc.) meant that the space available for an audience was occupied ( Ruck Zuck was produced in the same studio with an audience). The average audience in the first quarter of 1991 was 260,000. On January 1, 1993, the program ran on DSF at 7:30 p.m. The last episodes produced for DSF were broadcast in early summer 1993 in the morning program at around 9:00 a.m.

Rules and profits

The show was a combination of a quiz and a commercial. Due to the presentation of the prices, it was marked as a commercial (initially only by a few seconds of advertising , later permanently). In each broadcast, three candidates fought for the day's victory. Each player started with 20 points. Five points were credited for a correct answer, but deducted for an incorrect answer. The leading candidate was able to exchange some of the points earned through answers during the show in several “gift boutiques” for prizes in kind. For this, 6 points were deducted from the account in the first round, 9 in the second round and 16 points in the third round. The moderator also tried to induce the leader to "buy" by reducing the number of points that are deducted and / or adding money to the material prize (a candidate who was playing for the super prize refused a purchase of 20,000 DM in early 1991 Addition from). Another special feature were the three bonus questions. The candidate who answered this correctly could choose a field (1-9) on the wall. Behind it were material prizes or 10, 15 (from the 2nd bonus question) or 25 bonus points (from the 3rd bonus question). The overall winner could also choose a material prize corresponding to his number of points or accumulate the points for a higher material prize and continue playing in the next program. No minimum number of points was required for the first prize as the overall winner. 160 points were required for the next higher price. This increased by 90 points per profit level. Upon reaching 520 (initially 610) points the winner was a then current BMW of 3 series ( E36 sedan or coupe, E30 convertible or Touring) or the 5 Series E34 , win worth over DM 60,000 each. In the penultimate tier (610 points) there was a cash jackpot of at least DM 80,000 (increasing by DM 1,000 per broadcast), which could be combined with all previous prizes in the last tier (700 points - super champion ). Overall, this resulted in a maximum prize amount of over DM 300,000 (depending on the status of the jackpot and the value of the prizes), the prize of which on July 1, 1992 marked the highest value ever achieved in a German game show. By the 500th broadcast on November 5, 1992, there were five super champions . The two losers per shipment received a silver “money clip” as a consolation prize, as well as, of course, all prizes that they had won / bought in previous gift boutiques and bonus rounds.

Repetitions

Some of the old programs were repeated five times on the tm3 station between 1996 and 1999 (over 1,000 repetitions in total). In 2007 there were at ProSieben - Gameshow Marathon a single piece as a remake.

computer game

A computer game of the same name was published as a merchandising article in 1992, which was based on the concept and look of the television program. Of course, prizes could not be won here. Available it was for PC ( DOS ), Commodore 64 , Amiga 500 / 600 and Atari ST . The game was also given out to candidates on the show.
