Regine Kress-Fricke

Regine Kress-Fricke (born March 1, 1943 in Kiel ) is a German writer and performance artist .

Life and career

Regine Kress-Fricke grew up in Schleswig-Holstein and on the Weser. She began writing poetry at the age of 13. At the age of 17 she emigrated to the USA. She lived there in Connecticut as a child carer, attended night school, continued studying languages, and was an observer at King's Highway Elementary School. At that time she wrote the first volume of poetry, which was published in 1966 by Meister Verlag (Heidelberg). This was followed by training in Germany to become an actress and business interpreter.

Regine Kress-Fricke, who writes poems, novels, short stories and plays, has published numerous individual titles and (co-) editions as well as radio reports, essays, features and satirical texts in magazines, newspapers and anthologies.

She worked as a journalist for several print media and as a German teacher for several years. She held workshops and seminars, including a. as a lecturer at the adult education center, the Autonomous University of Monterrey (UANL) of Nuevo Leòn and the Karlsruhe Summer Academy, and was co-project manager of (large) literary events such as LICHTS .

The main themes of her work, which is strongly influenced by long stays in Mexico and the USA, are Mexico, France, women, violence among siblings and in the family, dream and illusions, historical and social topics.

From 1989 to 1991 she was a member of the federal and state executive boards of the Association of German Writers (VS). Regine Kress-Fricke, who is also a member of the PEN Center Germany, the VS, the Kogge and the GEDOK , is a founding member of the historical novel Quo Vadis group of authors and was its keeper of the seal until it was dissolved in 2013. From 1993 to 1998 she was a member of the advisory board of the Literary Society ( Scheffelbund ). Together with Anne Birk , she founded the Women Writing Initiative in Baden-Württemberg .

Regine Kress-Fricke lives in Karlsruhe.
