Bencecu de Jos (Hungarian: Alsóbencsek ) is a village in Timiș County , Banat , Romania . Bencecu de Jos belongs to the municipality of Pișchia .
Geographical location
Bencecu de Jos is located 25 kilometers northeast of Timișoara , at the foot of the Lipova hills. The village is located on the national road DN691 Timișoara- Lipova and on the Timișoara- Radna railway line .

history
Archaeological excavations show the existence of a human settlement in the area of Bencecu de Jos since the 3rd century. On Cristof Winkler's map, the place is entered as a village inhabited by Romanians. In 1456 it was owned by Johann Hunyadi and was mostly inhabited by Serbs. Over the centuries the owner changed several times: Ioan Griska, Matei Pann, the Banffy brothers, Sina and Graf Wimpffen.
Several names can be found as a place name: Wencze , Venese , Benczekuta . Bensekut is entered on the Mercy map from 1723 . In 1794, Germans settled one kilometer away and founded the town of Bencecu de Sus or Deutsch-Bentschek. Until 1968 the village belonged to the municipality of Bencecu de Sus, then to Pișchia.
