history

The village of Zechien was first mentioned in a document in 1256. In the papal tithe lists from 1333-1337, the place name Secsany appears . The village was created through the amalgamation of several hamlets: Secianiul Mic (Kleinetschan), Secianul Mare (Großsetschan), Macova and others. In 1582 the hamlets were inhabited by Serbs and were called Mali Szecsan (Little Sechan) and Veli Szecsan (Greater Sechan).

After the Peace of Passarowitz (1718), when the Banat became a Habsburg crown domain , Seceani was part of the Temescher Banat . After the Austro-Hungarian Compromise (1867), the Banat was annexed to the Kingdom of Hungary within the dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary . The official place name was Temesszécsény . The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in the Banat being divided into three, whereby Seceani fell to the Kingdom of Romania . In the interwar period Seceani belonged to the chair district of Vinga , Timiș-Torontal district.
