Murani (Hungarian: Temesmurány ) is a village in Timiș County , Banat , Romania . The village of Murani belongs to the Pișchia municipality .

Geographical location

Murani is located in the north of Timiş County, 25 kilometers from Timişoara , on the DJ691 Timişoara- Lipova road and on the A1 Timişoara- Arad motorway .

history

The first written mention of a place called Murun comes from the year 1318. In the Middle Ages the settlement Muron or Murony is mentioned. On the Josephine land survey of 1717, the place is registered with 20 houses. In 1781 Baron Josef Kulterer acquired the estate and was given the name de Muranyi . In 1848 Count Samuel Gyulay was lord of Muranyi.

After the Austro-Hungarian Compromise (1867), the Banat was annexed to the Kingdom of Hungary within the dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary . The official place name was Temesmurány .

The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in the Banat being divided into three parts, whereby Murani fell to the Kingdom of Romania .

In the interwar period, Murani belonged to the Vinga District, Timiș-Torontal County. Murani was a community center until 1950. Today Murani belongs to the municipality of Pișchia.

The marshland Muraner Ried (Romanian: Mlaştinile Murani ) is under nature protection . It extends over an area of ​​200 hectares and offers numerous bird species a suitable habitat and a gathering place for migratory birds from northern Russia and the Baltic states on their way to the Mediterranean .
