The Muraner Ried (Romanian: Mlaştinile Murani ) is a nature reserve of IUCN Category IV biotope and species protection ( bird sanctuary ) on the area of ​​the village Murani , in the municipality of Pişchia , in the Timiş district , Romania .

Geographical location

The marshland is located in the northwest of Timiș County, near the border with Arad County and east of the village of Murani , on the DJ693 Pișchia - Seceani county road and on the A1 motorway , 31 kilometers from Timișoara .

The Muraner Ried was declared a nature reserve by law number 5 of March 6, 2000. The reserve Murano Ried offers numerous water birds on the transit an ideal nesting place and a place of transit. Part of the reserve has been drained, which has led to a drastic decline in the number of bird species that can be found. Nevertheless, some protected species can still be found in the soup area. The Muraner Ried nature reserve is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Banat.

Flora and fauna

The marshland extends over an area of ​​200 hectares. Here one encounters a multitude of habitats of a wetland : standing and flowing water , thicket , meadows and forests .

Among the water birds are: the pochard ( Aythya ferina ), the marsh harrier ( Circus aeruginosus ), the black tern ( Chlidonias niger ), the white-bearded tern ( Chlidonias hybrida ), the white stork ( Ciconia ciconia ), the great crested grebe ( Podiceps cristatus ), the coot ( Fulica atra ), the gray goose ( Anser anser ), the pygmy goose ( Anser erythropus ), the mallard ( Anas platyrhynchos ), the white-fronted goose , ( Anser albifrons ), claws (Rallidae) and other species of waterfowl.
