The Big Island of Cenad (Romanian: Insula Mare Cenad ) is a protected area of IUCN category IV on the site of the town of Cenad , in Timiş County , Banat , Romania .
Geographical location
The island is located in the northwest of Timiș County, on the right bank of the Marosch , on the border with Arad County and Hungary , east of Cenad and north of Sânnicolau Mare .

The Big Island of Cenad is part of the Marosch-Auen Nature Park and was declared a nature reserve of national importance by law number 5 of March 6, 2000.
The Big Island of Cenad Nature Reserve is home to a variety of tree species such as willow ( Salix ) or poplar ( Populus ) and numerous types of steppe grasses. It provides a suitable habitat for a variety of migratory birds. The following birds can be found on the island:
- Purple Heron ( Ardea purpurea )
- Gray heron ( ardea cinerea )
- Black heron ( Ardeola ralloides )
- Night heron ( Nycticorax nycticorax )
- Great Egret ( Ardea alba )
- Black stork ( Ciconia nigra )
- White stork ( Ciconia ciconia )
- Great cormorant ( Phalacrocorax carbo )
- Red-throated diver ( Gavia stellata )
- Duck birds (Anatidae)
- Greylag goose ( anser anser )
