Regius Professor of Botany (Glasgow)

The Regius Professor of Botany is a 1818 endowed by George III. established Regius Professorship at the University of Glasgow . From 1704 lectures in botany were held in Glasgow , which in 1718 were appointed Regius Chair of Anatomy and Botany . With the separation of botany as an independent subject in 1818, this chair was continued as Regius Professor of Anatomy .

In addition to the Regius Professorship for Botany in Glasgow, there are also Regius Professorships for Botany at the Universities of Aberdeen ( Regius Professor of Botany (Aberdeen) since 1912), University of Edinburgh ( Regius Professor of Plant Science since 1710) and Cambridge ( Regius Professor of Botany (Cambridge) since 2009).

Isaac Bayley Balfour Esq., LL.D., MD, D.Sc., FRS 1879 1884 A few years after he had retired from the professorship in Glasgow, Balfour took over the Regius Professorship of Plant Science at the University of Edinburgh, whereby he also became Royal Keeper of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh .

His next stop was Stanford University , where he received his doctorate. Further stations were the University of Nuremberg, where he was supported with a scholarship from the Fulbright program , then Yale, Cambridge, the University of London and Imperial College, London.
