Reifstein is a residential area of the local community Erpel in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Neuwied .

The living space is on the edge of the Erpeler Kirchpielwald in the east of the Erpeler municipality area at 350  m above sea level. NHN , immediately north of Kretzhaus (city of Linz on the Rhine ) and west of Kalenborn (local community Vettelschoss ). Landesstraße 253 (Linz– Rottbitze ) passes east in a north-south direction and is crossed by the Kasbachtalbahn directly at Reifstein , which ends in Kalenborn when coming from Linz. West of frost stone itself rises Steinhübel ( 357.6  m above sea level. NN ), north begins at the junction of the by Bruchhausen down leading national road 252 ( Unkel -Kretzhaus / Kalenborn) in the L 253 one at Asberg leading past forest road in extension of the adjustment path .

The name Reifstein goes back to a field name that indicates the location of the square on the former border between the parishes of Erpel, Neustadt and Linz or the administrative offices of Linz and Altenwied in Cologne as well as the lordship of Erpel, which belonged to the cathedral chapter , in Prussian times between the mayors of Unkel , Neustadt and Linz describes. A boundary stone was erected there in 1680 , which stands at Landesstraße 253 and today marks the border between the city of Linz on the Rhine and the local communities of Erpel and Vettelschoss. Reif stone is thus interpreted as an "Reifel-" or "corrugating Stein", the name of a located at an edge (boundary) stone with marking grooves, and grooves mentioned.

In 1778 a first living room or hunting lodge was built in the corridor, which originally served as a forest hut. In the 1920s a forester's house was added, which was used by the district forester until after the Second World War and has served as a residence ever since. In addition to various outbuildings and ponds, the area also includes a horse stable. The Reifstein residential area, which had eight residents in 2005, is currently used as a residential and office building by a tree care company Siebengebirge and a consulting company.

An area east of the state road, which was built on in 1923/24, was also included in Reifstein. With effect from March 16, 1974 border corrections were made, in which this area was transferred to the local community of Vettelschoss. In 1993, another sub-area in the Reifstein corridor was transferred from Erpel to Vettelschoß.
