Reimer Kay Holander

Reimer Kay Holander (born July 12, 1925 in Berlin ; † September 24, 2013 in Bredstedt ) was a German homeland researcher and publicist.

Life

Holander was born as Hans Reimer Hentschel in Berlin in 1925. He studied geography, architecture, art and cultural history and regional planning and was a. a. Editor of the magazine The month before he moved to North Friesland , the home of his ancestors. In 1964 Holander co-initiated the founding of the Nordfriisk Instituut there , for which he worked as a lecturer and managing director until 1986. In 1965 he founded the quarterly journal Nordfriesland, which he edited together with Thomas Steensen from 1977 until 1986. He wrote several publications. His book on Theodor Storm's novella Der Schimmelreiter received particular attention .

Holander is considered to be “a central figure in the struggles that the young institute had to fight for its existence again and again against some resistance.” In 2005 he received the Hans Momsen Prize from the North Friesland district for his services .
