Pure oath

The Reiner Oath (named after the place of the decision, the Rein Abbey near Graz ) is a historical oath. On September 19, 1276 praised Styrian and Carinthian nobles the Roman-German King Rudolf I. loyalty and recognized him as sovereign. Soon after, the rule of the Bohemian King Přemysl Ottokar II over Austria ended.

The following counts, free and ministerials from Styria, Carinthia and Carniola were gathered here:

The certificate of the Reiner Oath with five seals has been preserved and is in the Austrian State Archives in Vienna.

The pure oath did not work in the long term: Some of the signatories of the oath supported the Landsberger Bund in 1291/92 , an uprising against King Rudolf's successor, Duke Albrecht I.
