Reinhard Eberhard Effertz (born January 2, 1848 in Bielefeld ; † March 4, 1930 ) was a German entrepreneur , patron and city councilor .

As the son of merchants, Reinhard Effertz completed an apprenticeship in his parents' business after attending grammar school and then worked in various steelworks . In 1875 he became director of the ironworks in Thale am Harz and stayed there until 1880 when he went to Königsborn near Unna in a comparable position .

Effertz is closely linked to the development of the city of Unna at the turn of the century . As general director , he was in charge of Königsborner AG for mining, salt pans and brine bath operations . Effertz was also a city councilor (1881–1898) and a member of the board of trustees of Unna higher schools. On the occasion of his appointment to the Commerce Council , Effertz donated a large sum in 1907, which went to the Effertz Foundation for the promotion of the Unna school system. From then on he belonged to a number of supervisory boards of important companies such as Klöckner-Werke . In 1909 he had the Villa Effertz built in Hanover and lived there after retiring from day-to-day business in 1910 until his death. After he later became a board member, he again transferred a large amount to the city. Effertz was also the initiator and sponsor of the construction of the Sacred Heart and Christ Church in Königsborn.

The Effertz monument is located in the spa gardens of the city of Unna, not far from the former salt office at the Siedeinspektorhaus der Saline Königsborn . The boulder with a weight of 70 tons was found in the clay field of the Massener Ringofen brickworks and erected in the spa gardens in 1903. On the occasion of Reinhard Effertz's service anniversary in 1922, a bronze plaque with his portrait was placed on the memorial boulder as a gift from the staff for their chairman of the board. The bronze plaque was broken out of the stone by strangers at the end of June 2017 and stolen. In 2018 the monument was restored using a cast bronze plaque.
