Reinhard Eiben (born December 4, 1951 in Crossen ) is a former German canoeist . He became Olympic champion and world champion in canoe slalom for the GDR .
Career
Eiben started canoeing on the Zwickauer Mulde . In 1968 he was delegated from the Zwickau Canoe Club to the SC DHfK Leipzig . At the World Cup in 1971, he finished 13th.
At the 1972 Olympic Games , Olympic canoe slalom competitions were held for the first time. On the Augsburg ice canal , Eiben won in the single canoe clearly ahead of the German Reinhold Kauder , the reigning world champion. In 1973 Eiben became world champion in the Muotatal .
He won silver in the team competition in 1973 and 1975 and became world champion in 1977 with Peter Massalski and Lutz Körner . After the 1977 World Cup, in which Eiben took eighth place in the individual competition, he ended his career.
The trained industrial blacksmith worked for the Leipzig district, after 1989 he moved to Schleswig-Holstein.
