Reinhard Moritz Horstig (born January 6, 1814 in Guben , Niederlausitz ; † March 27, 1865 in Stolp , Pomerania ) was a German philologist and high school teacher .

Life

As the son of the archdeacon , Horstig attended high school in Guben , from which he graduated in 1836. He studied philology and Protestant theology at the Albertus University in Königsberg and the Friedrich Wilhelms University in Berlin . A student watercolor portrait of Wilhelm Schmiedeberg has come down to us in the sheets of memory of Wilhelm Schmiedeberg .

After he had passed the exam pro facultate docendi at the scientific examination commission in Berlin , he completed the probationary year from Michaelis 1839 in his hometown. Appointed to Putbus as an adjunct for a year , he resigned in the summer of 1842. In 1843 he came to the Joachimsthalsche Gymnasium in Berlin . At Christmas of the same year he was appointed full teacher and adjunct there. At Easter 1847 he started teaching Latin and religion at the secondary school in Stolp. When it was converted into a grammar school at Easter 1857 , Horstig was promoted to head teacher . Having been ill for a long time, he had to cut back classes and stop them entirely in November 1864. He died at the age of 51.

He dealt scientifically with the Latin poets, especially Cornelius Nepos , as well as the history of the country.
