Reinhart Schmidt , also called Schmidt-Elberfeld , (born June 14, 1838 in Elberfeld (now part of Wuppertal ); † October 21, 1909 there ) was a German entrepreneur and politician as a member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Schmidt attended the grammar school Elberfeld. In 1869 he founded the company Reinhart Schmidt GmbH, which still exists today, for the production of envelopes in a backyard on Herzogstrasse in Elberfeld.

Schmidt was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives for the constituency Arnsberg 4 (city and district Hagen - district Schwelm ) from 1890 to 1893 and from 1898 to 1909. He was a member of the city ​​council in Elberfeld from 1873 to 1884 and again from 1890. In the period from 1908 to 1909 he was a member of the provincial parliament of the Prussian Rhine Province for Elberfeld.

He was also a member of the Reichstag from 1881 to 1884 for the Düsseldorf 2 constituency (Elberfeld-Barmen). From 1887 to 1893 he represented the constituency of Düsseldorf 1 (Lennep-Mettmann-Remscheid) in the Reichstag. In the Reichstag election in 1887 he was elected in the runoff election with the help of the Social Democrats against the National Liberal candidate, in 1890 with the help of the National Liberals against a Social Democratic candidate. From 1893 to 1907 he was a member of the constituency of Hesse 8 (Bingen-Alzey). He was a member of the Presidium of the Reichstag from 1895 to 1900. From 1893 he was chairman of the Central Committee of the Liberal People's Party .

In 1911 Wilhelm Neumann-Torborg erected a Reinhart Schmidt monument.
