Reinhold Guleke
Reinhold Guleke (born May 12, 1834 in Salisburg , Livonia; † July 6, 1927 in Jena ; full name: Reinhold Ludwig Ernst Guleke ) was a German-Baltic engineer , architect and university professor .
Life
Reinhold Guleke attended the cathedral school and grammar school in Riga . From the summer semester of 1855 to the winter semester of 1857/1858, he studied zoology and chemistry at the University of Dorpat and joined the Livonia here . From the summer semester 1858 to the summer semester 1859 he studied mechanical engineering at the École Centrale des Arts et Manufactures in Paris and from the winter semester 1959 to the summer semester 1861 at the Polytechnische Schule Karlsruhe . On November 3rd, he was one of the founders of the Livonia Polytechnic Association , the oldest preliminary association of the Corps Baltica-Borussia Danzig in Bielefeld . In 1861 he was President of the Polytechnic Association. In autumn 1861 he graduated as an engineer.
From 1862 to 1864 he was an engineer and director of the Ligat paper mill . In 1865 and 1866 he was First Secretary of the German Society of New York City . After returning to Europe, he was in charge of the layout of railway lines in Livonia from 1867 to 1869 . After working as an engineer in Berlin from 1870 to 1871, he was director of the Hohenkrug paper mill from 1872 to 1874 . In 1875 he was appointed city architect in Pernau . In 1881 he was appointed university architect and lecturer for architecture at the University of Dorpat. He held this position until 1906. At the same time he was architect of the Dorpater teaching district from 1881 to 1886 and of the Livonian City Mortgage Association from 1886 to 1904. From 1906 until his death he lived as a private scholar in Berlin, Hamburg and Jena. Reinhold Guleke was the first cathedral researcher at the Riga Cathedral .

- His sister Maria Guleke translated the first Latvian novel, Mērnieku Laiki ( Land Surveyor Times ), into German.
