Release (The Tension) is a song by the US singer Patti LaBelle from 1980. It is the theme song from LaBelle's fourth studio album Released from 1980. Patti Labelle was involved in the songwriting . The track was produced by funk musician Allen Toussaint in New Orleans . LaBelle then recorded her singing. The accompanying music video shows labels with different dance styles from the disco scene. The single did not make it into the American Billboard Hot 100 and reached number 61 on the R&B charts and number 48 on the dance charts. In the Netherlands , the single reached the top 20. In light of this success, Labelle promoted the single on Dutch TV.
