Winner in You is the eighth studio album by Patti LaBelle , which was released in April 1986 and is probably LaBelle's most successful album.
background
The album was preceded by a change of label from Philadelphia International to the major label MCA Records . After the release, the work replaced the Janet Jackson album Control at the top of the US album charts and was in turn replaced by the soundtrack for the film Top Gun , and it also received a platinum award. The LP's success was fueled by the song On My Own , a duet with Michael McDonald . The song topped both the pop and R&B charts.
reception
Allmusic's Rob Wynn wrote that the album led LaBelle to the stardom she'd strived for since 1977. With Kiss Away the Pain there was even another potential, but ignored hit single. It awarded three out of five stars.
