The Remstal-Gymnasium Weinstadt - abbreviated RGW - is a grammar school in Weinstadt , Baden-Württemberg .

history

In 1964 the Waiblingen High School Authority decided to build a grammar school in Weinstadt. Initially, however , the school administration remains with the city of Waiblingen. The first class will be accommodated in Beutelsbach in the school year 1965/66 with 36 students.

From December 1, 1966, the school was run as a Progymnasium and senior teacher Kächele from the Waiblingen Gymnasium was temporarily commissioned with the management of the school. In the school year 1968/69, after around a year of construction, the current main building of the school, whose architects Kohn and Loges were from Stuttgart , moved into. The building was finally inaugurated on May 22, 1970.

With the Abitur in 1973, the first students of the Remstal-Gymnasium passed the matriculation examination. In the following years, the high school is gradually expanded to include additional buildings due to the steadily growing number of students. In 1978 a new building with additional classrooms was built, which was expanded again in 1980. In 1983 a chemical building was built. In 2003 the new building from 1980 was increased. In 2007 a cafeteria was set up for the entire Weinstadt educational center.

In the 1980/81 school year, around 1450 students, the largest number of students at the Remstal grammar school to date . Due to the lack of classrooms, the timetable has to be designed in shifts at times (in some cases pure afternoon classes).

In the 2003/04 school year, the eight-year gymnasium course in the natural sciences begins.

  • The school has a solar and wind power system as a student project . This includes three solar modules of different technologies on the school roof as well as a wind power generator on a nine meter high mast. The wind power and solar systems should enable scientific experiments and trials. For this reason, the measured values ​​are presented and illustrated in a detailed manner using complex measurement technology at a central location accessible to all students. An additionally installed measurement data acquisition system allows experiments on a scientific level, especially for upper school classes.
  • Participation in the student engineering academy , SIA for short , a cooperation between the grammar school, the Stuttgart vocational academy , companies from the vicinity of the grammar school and Südwestmetall , the association of the metal and electrical industry in Baden-Württemberg. It is aimed at upper school students and can be chosen by them as a seminar course in class 11.
  • School big band with around 20 members.
