René Schicker (born September 28, 1984 in Leoben ) is an Austrian football player .
Club career
Schicker began his career in the youth of DSV Leoben . In 2001 he switched to the Grazer AK . Due to the personnel policy of the Red Devils at the time, he was not considered in the professional team and was given back to the then Red Zac First League for DSV Leoben. In Leoben, known as the talent club, he got a lot of working time from the start and became an important template for the up-and-coming Joachim Parapatits and Thomas Pichlmann . 2002 followed a year as a regular player with strong performances. Leoben came in second behind SV Mattersburg , which was definitely due to Schicker. Since he also shone in the Austrian U-19 selection at the same time, he aroused the interest of various Bundesliga clubs .
In July 2003 he switched to the then T-Mobile Bundesliga for SV Salzburg . The Salzburg team, who with Ernst Öbster also had his congenial strike partner from U-19 selection times under contract, were thus in the possession of a potential future national team duo. A complete false start into the season followed, which cost the then coach Lars Söndergaard the job. An offensive system with Öbster and Schicker was unthinkable in the relegation battle and so he only made four missions in the first half of the season without a goal for Salzburg. As a result, he was awarded back to the Red Zac League during the winter break at SV Kapfenberg . In Kapfenberg he was again a regular player and completed fourteen missions with two goals.
Due to his strong performance in the youth teams of Austria, there were also interested parties from abroad in the summer of 2004. After Salzburg no longer placed any particular emphasis on his services, he completed a trial training session with the Swiss first division club FC St. Gallen . As a result, he scored two goals in the friendly against Grasshoppers Zurich , which meant that he was offered a three-year contract, which he signed. As a result, he played big in the first half of the season under coach Heinz Peischl , in order to lose a lot after the winter break, like the entire team. At the end of the season he was only used sporadically and was then awarded after sixteen missions with two goals for the following season to FC Carinthia , which is going into the season with great ambitions for promotion .
In Carinthia he found his old strength again and played a strong season. In the end, he was able to celebrate his career best with seven goals. The season itself was disappointing for the club. Having started the season with ambitions for promotion, they found themselves in seventh place in the table. There followed a change of course for the following season, which included the promotion of their own youth players. As a result, no extension of the contract with Schicker was sought, so he returned to St. Gallen. There, in the meantime, Heinz Peischl, the trainer who had brought him in, was dismissed. The new St. Gallen trainer Ralf Loose hadn't planned for Schicker, which enabled him to move back home to DSV Leoben .
In Leoben he was able to build on his strong performances and finished third in the first year. The following year he became one of the best players in the league.
When Heinz Peischl was appointed coach of FC Admira Wacker Mödling for the 2008/09 season , he remembered his player from St. Gallen times and signed him again. Even after the coaching change from Peischl to Walter Schachner , Schicker remained a regular player at Admira and moved into the Austrian Cup final in 2009 with the club , which was lost 3-1 to FK Austria Wien after extra time . In the 2010/11 season, he was finally promoted to the Bundesliga .
In the winter of 2013 he switched to TSV Hartberg on loan until the end of the season .
On October 3, 2015, Rene Schicker celebrated his 200 Bundesliga game for FC Admira Wacker Mödling.
On June 3, 2016 it was announced that Schicker would end his professional career and become assistant coach of the second team at FC Admira Wacker Mödling.
For the 2016/17 season he moved to the national division SV Stripfing .
At the beginning of July 2017 he was signed by Viktoria Vienna .
National team
In 2003 it caused an international sensation as an important part of the Austrian selection at the U-19 European Championship in Liechtenstein . Among other things, he scored two goals in the 4-1 group game against the highly favored Czech U-19 team. Austria made it to the semi-finals, where they were only eliminated against the later runner-up of the tournament, Portugal. Schicker was used in all games.
In the following years he was also a member of the U-21 team , with which he could not set any major accents. Until now, he has been denied an A-Team assignment.
