René Wildangel
René Wildangel (born June 7, 1973 in Rheinbach ) is a German historian and grandson of Ernst Wildangel .
Life
Wildangel studied history , German , political science and Arabic in Cologne , Jerusalem and Damascus .
After graduating, he spent a year at IFEAD in Damascus. From 2001 to 2004 he was a fellow of the Heinrich Böll Foundation at the Center for the Modern Orient . There he did his doctorate on the Arab-Palestinian perception of National Socialism . At the same time, Wildangel worked for several years in the Berlin memorial "House of the Wannsee Conference". Since then, numerous publications on the Middle East have appeared . His research on the Palestinian and Arab collaboration in general with National Socialism comes to the conclusion that this is being instrumentalized and overrated in terms of historical policy. His scholarly research into original Arabic sources was praised, appeared in various respected specialist publications and was described in the [Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung] as "the multifaceted picture of the Palestinian public under a British mandate". A reviewer of the [Süddeutsche Zeitung] criticized "the somewhat striking representation" of Wildangel's dissertation. He worked in the Foreign Office as a country officer for Iraq and in the Bundestag as a parliamentary group officer for the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen party and as a freelance author . He was a fellow at the House of Representatives in Washington, DC for Representative Jim McDermott. From the beginning of 2012 to September 2015, he heads the regional office for Palestine and Jordan of the Heinrich Böll Foundation in Ramallah in the West Bank .
Since then, numerous publications have appeared in FAZ , Süddeutsche Zeitung , DIE ZEIT , taz , Le Monde diplomatique , as well as on radio and television. Wildangel is a regular commentator on the situation in Israel and Palestine on Deutschlandradio Kultur, on Swiss radio and other stations.
