Renate Jaeger

Renate Jaeger (born December 30, 1940 in Darmstadt ) is a German judge .

Life

Jaeger studied law at the University of Cologne , Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and the Université de Lausanne . After the second state examination she appeared in 1968 in the judicial service of the country North Rhine-Westphalia , and was until 1974 a judge at the Social Court Dusseldorf , where they for the years 1970 and 1971 as a research assistant to the Federal Social Court was seconded. In 1974 Jaeger was appointed judge at the regional social court , where she worked until 1987. From 1976 to 1979 she was seconded to the Federal Constitutional Court as a research assistant . In 1986 she was appointed presiding judge at the regional social court, and in 1987 she was appointed judge at the federal social court.

In addition to her work at the Federal Social Court, she was elected a member of the Constitutional Court for the State of North Rhine-Westphalia in 1988, and in 1992 she also became a member of the Constitutional Inquiry Commission for Rhineland-Palatinate. From 1991 to 1994 she also held a teaching position at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster .

On March 24, 1994 Jaeger was finally appointed judge of the Federal Constitutional Court, where she was a member of the First Senate until October 29, 2004. She was also the liaison officer of the Federal Constitutional Court to the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe .

On April 28, 2004, Jaeger was elected judge at the European Court of Human Rights by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe . Before taking up this judge's office on November 1, 2004, she was awarded an honorary doctorate on October 14, 2004 by the Law Faculty of the University of Münster . In autumn she was awarded the Great Cross of Merit with Star and Shoulder Ribbon from the Federal Republic of Germany.

Renate Jaeger is a member of the board of trustees of Aktion Deutschland Hilft e. V., the alliance of aid organizations.

Jaeger's successor at the Federal Constitutional Court is Reinhard Gaier and Angelika Nussberger followed her at the European Court of Human Rights at the beginning of 2011 .

Jaeger has been Chair of the Disciplinary Board of the European Commission since January 12, 2011 . From 2011 to 2015 she also headed the arbitration board of the legal profession , which mediates in disputes between clients and lawyers.
