Renate Lieckfeldt 2010

Iris Renate Lieckfeldt , b. Iris Lange , (born July 10, 1965 in Dinslaken , North Rhine-Westphalia , † September 8, 2013 in Leipzig ) was a German pharmacist . From July 2011 to August 2013 she was the rector of the Leipzig University of Applied Sciences (HTWK). Before her appointment, Lieckfeldt was Professor of Technical Management and Project Management at the Gelsenkirchen University of Applied Sciences .

Life

In 1988 she completed her studies in pharmacy at the University of Heidelberg , and the following year she obtained her license to practice medicine . In 1993 she received her doctorate in pharmaceutical technology at the Institute for Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmacy at Heidelberg University.

She was Regulatory Affairs Manager Drugs & Medical Devices at Procter & Gamble GmbH in Schwalbach / Taunus (1994–1996) and Technical External Relations Manager Benelux at Procter & Gamble Nederland BV in Rotterdam, Netherlands (1996–2001). From 2001 to 2011 she taught as a professor for technical management and project management in the physical technology department at the Gelsenkirchen University of Applied Sciences.

Renate Lieckfeldt was married and had three children. She succumbed to her prolonged, repeatedly treated cancer on September 8, 2013.

Rector of the HTWK Leipzig

On January 19, 2011 Lieckfeldt was elected as the new Rector by the Extended Senate of the HTWK Leipzig - after surviving breast cancer . The planned assumption of office was May 1st, 2011, however, according to her own statement, the Saxon State Ministry for Science and Art told her that there was an "increased risk of recurrence" from cancer , which is why she was refused the official position and thus the post of rector at the HTWK, which was believed to be certain. As a result, students occupied the rectorate of the HTWK in Leipzig for one day . The case started an intensive ethical discussion about how to deal with cancer patients in complete remission at work.

Previously, her application against the re-running incumbent, Hubertus Milke, was rejected as unqualified by the HTWK's newly created university council (two-thirds of whom were non-university members). Lieckfeldt then successfully appealed and a new procedure allowed her application. As a result of these events, the University Council and the Ministry of Science were accused by student spokesmen of using Lieckfeldt's cancer as an excuse to keep Hubertus Milke (member of the CDU Future Commission) in office, a rector who, in their opinion, was close to the CDU.

After a meeting with Science Minister Sabine von Schorlemer in May 2011, at which Lieckfeldt presented an additional medical examination, the ministry relented and announced in June 2011 that the appointment could be carried out. On July 1, 2011, Lieckfeldt was appointed Rector of the HTWK by the Saxon State Ministry for Science and Art.

After a cancer relapse that had already occurred in 2011, the HTWK finally announced on August 20, 2013 that Lieckfeldt would be stepping down for health reasons with effect from September 1, 2013 and handing over the management of official business to the previous Vice Rector for Research, Markus Krabbes will. As her successor in office, Gesine Grande was appointed by the Saxon State Ministry for Science and Art (SMWK) on October 1, 2014 .
