Gesine Grande

Gesine Grande (* 1964 in Leipzig ) is a German psychologist and health scientist and professor of psychology. In 2020 the Senate of the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg elected her as President. From 2014 to 2019 she was the rector of the University for Technology, Economics and Culture (HTWK) in Leipzig.

education

Gesine Grande attended a polytechnic high school from 1971 and an extended high school in Leipzig from 1979 to 1983 , which she finished with the Abitur . She then began studying psychology at the University of Leipzig , which she completed in 1988 with a degree in psychology . She was awarded the Georg Mayer Prize of the University of Leipzig for her outstanding study results .

In 1997 Grande received his doctorate as "Doctor of Public Health" at the Faculty of Health Sciences at Bielefeld University . For her doctoral thesis she was awarded the Dissertation Prize of the Westfälisch-Lippische Universitätsgesellschaft .

She obtained her habilitation in 2012 at the Medical Faculty of the University of Leipzig , and she received the Venia Legendi teaching qualification in the field of "Medical Psychology".

She has been a licensed psychological psychotherapist since 1999.

Professional practice

From 1988 to 1991, Grande worked as a research assistant at the Leipzig University Women's Clinic . After German reunification , she changed from 1991 to 1994 as a research assistant in various medical psychological and health science research projects at the University of Essen and the University of Bielefeld .

From 1995 to 2003 she worked as a research assistant and subsequently as a research assistant at the Faculty of Health Sciences, in the Social Epidemiology and Health System Design working group under the direction of the renowned Professor of Health Science Bernhard Badura at Bielefeld University.

In 2003 she was appointed professor of psychology for a C2 position at the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences at the University of Applied Sciences for Technology, Economics and Culture (HTWK) in Leipzig. At the beginning of 2014 she accepted a call to the W3 professorship for prevention and health promotion at Faculty 11 at the University of Bremen .

Her scientific work includes the main research areas of health system analysis, patient orientation and participation, psychocardiology and cardiological rehabilitation. More recently, she and her working group have carried out various research projects in health promotion and prevention, with a focus on community health promotion, social disadvantage and the effects of neighborhood and living environment on the health of residents.

In the summer of 2014 Gesine Grande was elected as the seventh rector of the HTWK Leipzig for a term of 5 years - as the successor to Renate Lieckfeldt , who died in 2013 and whose office was now held by the then Vice-Rector Research Markus Krabbe . She took up her post as rector in the winter semester 2014/2015.

During her tenure, a number of university strategic projects were tackled and processed. Among other things, the university development plan "HTWK2025" was drawn up and approved. Part of the implementation was, among other things, the strengthening of mathematical and scientific basic training in the various courses, the merging of the existing courses in industrial engineering and a reform of the faculty structure, in which several smaller faculties were merged into larger ones. It was able to acquire a foundation of the Deutsche Telekom AG which is unique in Germany in terms of funding period and scope, which resulted in the establishment of a new faculty at the HTWK Leipzig. Since the foundation faculty "Digital Transformation" was re-established on October 1st, 2019, HTWK Leipzig has been divided into six faculties. Gesine Grande's term of office ended on September 30, 2019. Previously, the Extended Senate of the HTWK Leipzig had elected the financial scientist Mark Mietzner from the private Zeppelin University Friedrichshafen as the new rector (in office: October 1, 2019).
