Mark Mietzner

Mark Mietzner (* 1978 in Warendorf ) is a German business economist and professor of banking and finance . From 2015 to 2019 he was dean and head of the advanced training programs at the private Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen , and since 2019 he has been the rector of the University of Applied Sciences for Technology, Economics and Culture (HTWK) Leipzig .

Career

Mark Mietzner was 1978 in Warendorf born, the county town of Warendorf in the administrative district of Münster ( Nordrhein-Westfalen ). He attended the relevant schools here and graduated from high school in 1999 . He then studied business administration from 1999 to 2004 at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , specializing in finance.

From 2004 to 2006 Mietzner was initially a research assistant at the Institute for Strategic Management at the University of Münster . He then became a research assistant at the endowed chair for banking and finance at the European Business School (EBS) Oestrich-Winkel until 2008 .

2008 doctorate he became Dr. rer. pole. in the field of finance at the private European Business School (EBS), University of Economics and Law in Oestrich-Winkel near Wiesbaden with the dissertation "Changes in Corporate Governance and Corporate Valuation". He then accepted a post-doctoral position at the Technical University of Darmstadt until 2012 .

University professor

From 2010 to 2012 he held the junior professorship for “Alternative Investments & Corporate Governance” at the Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen . During this time, from 2011 to 2012, he also held a substitute professorship for risk management at Ulm University .

Since 2012 he has worked as a junior professor for “Financing” at the Friedrichshafen “Institute for Family Businesses” and as a post-doctoral candidate at the Department of Corporate Financing at the Technical University of Darmstadt .

In the winter semester of 2014, Mietzner was appointed professor to the chair for banking and finance at the Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen . He held this professorship until he took office as rector of the HTWK Leipzig in the 2019 winter semester.

In 2017 he completed his habilitation at the Technical University of Darmstadt . Here he also received his teaching license ( venia legendi ) for the field of business administration .

In 2015, Mark Mietzner was appointed dean of the private Zeppelin University Friedrichshafen as well as scientific and commercial director of the advanced training programs there, the "Zeppelin University Executive Education". Since then, he has built up this advanced training as a quality provider of international and interdisciplinary programs for managers and innovative study programs.

The members of the Extended Senate of the HTWK Leipzig have elected the financial scientist, university manager and entrepreneur Mark Mietzner as rector and successor to the previous rector Gesine Grande . His term of office began in the 2019/2020 winter semester after being appointed by the Saxon State Ministry for Science and Art (SMWK) and is initially 5 years.

On October 1, 2019 - at the age of 40 - Mark Mietzner took up his post as the 8th Rector of the University of Technology, Economics and Culture in Leipzig . At that time, around 6,200 students were enrolled at the HTWK, and a total of 642 employees were active in 6 faculties and in the institutions of the HTWK. The HTWK press office also reported: The faculties achieved a new third-party funding record of 12.1 million euros in 2018 through acquisitions from the federal government, the European Union, commercial enterprises and the Free State of Saxony, almost two million euros more than in the previous year. In addition, the HR managers of 650 HTWK companies also gave top marks in the training of electrical engineers, according to the “Wirtschaftswoche” ranking; These entrepreneurs voted the HTWK 5th among 120 state universities of applied sciences. A survey by the Hamburg data portal “Statista” in May 2019 also showed that the HTWK is one of the 20 “most attractive employers in Leipzig”.

Mietzner works in his rectorate with the professor for business administration Barbara Mikus as prorector for education and the professor for civil engineering / civil engineering Ralf Thiele as prorector for research and the professor for business administration Swantje Rother as chancellor .
