Renaud Barbier (born December 9, 1969 ) is a French film composer .

life and work

Renaud Barbier completed his music studies for jazz performance at the Center Musical Créatif in Nancy in 1991 with Summa Cum Laude . From 1992 to 1993 he worked there as a teacher for piano and harmony before he finally moved to the USA in 1994 and until 1998 at Berklee College of Music in Boston the subjects: film scoring, composition, big band arrangement and piano jazz performance studied.

In 1998 he returned to France and worked with the Canaïma-world-jazz group on the A Human Experiment project, his first CD release. Barbier then concentrated on composition in the field of film music . In the same year he wrote his first music for the French television series Vertiges .

In 2000, his older brother the director Éric Barbier (* 1960) hired him for his drama Toreros , a Spanish-French co-production with Olivier Martinez and Claude Brasseur in the leading roles. In 2003 José Pinheiro engaged him for his television film Ne meurs pas with Roger Hanin . In 2006, Barbier worked again with his brother Éric on his cinema production The Snake . Yvan Attal , Clovis Cornillac and Pierre Richard played the leading roles in the psychological thriller . The film's score was released by the Milan label in 2007 as a standalone soundtrack .

In 2007 he wrote the score for Sergio Umansky's comedy Mejor es que Gabriela no se muera and for Borislav Šajtinac's animated film Le tueur de Montmartre . In 2009 he composed the music for Jean-Teddy Filippe's science fiction television film Death in the Time Loop . A year later he created the score for Filippe's film debut Le mystère with Marcel Miller and Carole Bouquet . In 2014, the drama 137 Karat - An Almost Perfect Coup with the cast of Yvan Attal , Bérénice Bejo and Jean-François Stévenin was another cinema production by his brother Éric, for which Renaud Barbier contributed the film music. In 2017 he also composed the score for Early Promise for his brother .

In addition to his film composition work for cinema productions, documentaries and short films and his scores for French television, Renaud Barbier also created works for the concert hall from 1994 to 2005, including music for orchestra and chamber music.
