Renault was a French cycling team that existed under the names Renault-Gitane and Renault-Elf from 1978 to 1985.

General

The team was sponsored by the car manufacturer Renault and the bicycle manufacturer Gitane . In 1978, the Renault group took over the wheel manufacturer Gitane and thus became the successor to sponsoring the Gitane-Campagnolo team . The Renault team was led by Cyrille Guimard and Maurice Champion .

The team was one of the most successful at the time. It has won the Tour de France six times , the Giro d'Italia twice and the Vuelta a España twice . In addition, he won various classics and world championships .

Under the direction of Guimard, the young Bernard Hinault developed into one of the best cyclists of his time. From the beginning of Hinault's career in 1975 until his move to Team La Vie Claire in 1984, the two worked together extremely successfully.
