Rencontres internationales de Luthiers et Maîtres Sonneurs
The Rencontres Internationales de Luthiers et Maîtres Sonneurs in the Indre department was an international music festival with awards ceremonies that took place every year from 1976 to 2013 . After the bankruptcy of the sponsoring association in early 2014, a follow-up event is being planned.
The festival took place from 1976 to 2008 in a castle park in Saint-Chartier , from 2009 to 2013 in the park of the Château d'Ars a few kilometers further south-east, in the immediate vicinity of the city of La Châtre , as an event for traditional music , early music and instrument making tens of thousands of visitors. Musical instruments from almost all of Europe are exhibited and sold by instrument makers at around 130 stands.
Presented bagpipes (most of them French Cornemuse du Center , Cabrettes , Bohas and Veuzes , but also English Border Pipes , Italian Zampogne , Spanish Gaitas , German shepherd pipes , Flemish bagpipes and other types), rotary lyres , diatonic and chromatic accordions , nyckelharpas , flutes , Grallas , Bombards , percussion instruments and many others.
People dance and make music around the clock during the event. The participating musicians come from all over the world.
The meeting usually takes place every year on the week of July 14th, France's national holiday .
