Rentsch is an old district of Bolzano , today part of the center-Bozner Boden-Rentsch district and the cadastral municipality of Zwölfmalgrei . It is located east of the city center at the foot of the Rittner Berg and is delimited from St. Justina and Leitach by the Rivelaunbach . The higher wine village of St. Magdalena is also included in Rentsch.

Just like other settlements on the outskirts of the Bolzano Basin, Rentsch is older than the old town area of Bolzano, which was largely founded according to plan in the late 12th century, and has been documented since the 11th century. The old town center of Rentsch is the St. Lorenz Church . Next to this is the stately lamb tavern (Lamplhaus, Könighof, Ansitz Windegg), which now houses the Bolzano School Museum, and the Zigglbrunnen, an old draw well from the early 17th century. Behind the Lamplhaus is the Karl Felix Wolff primary school , a historicist building from 1928.

Rentsch by the old Brennerweg, which in pre-modern times in the runs over the saddle leading, so-called Kaiserweg or via Kardaun in by the Eisack leading Kuntersweg branched. The old route connection through Rentsch was formerly also called Hoher Weg or Brochner Weg and is documented as "Prochenwege" as early as 1307 . Rentscher Strasse was expanded and widened in 1917 by the Bozen city architect Gustav Nolte .

In the district court order of Gries -Bozen from 1487, Vlrich Stellner appears as a separate district captain "zu Róntsch / margreidt ze Róntsch" , who also functions as the sovereign tax collector .

Although it is dominated by numerous new residential buildings, Rentsch still has a large number of old farms that mainly operate wine . These include the Griesbauer, Pignater, Triangl, Pfannenstiel, Huck im Bach, Falser and Glöggl farms.

Rentsch's club life includes the football club FC Rentsch , founded in 1994, and the former ice hockey club HC Rentsch, which was merged with EV Bozen 84 in 1984 . The Rentscher Kirchtag takes place every year on August 10th around the old draw well.
