The Resolution 148 of the UN Security Council is a resolution that the United Nations Security Council voted unanimously in the 891st session on August 23 1960th It dealt with the admission of Niger as a new member in the United Nations .

background

From 1895 the Niger colony was part of French West Africa . In 1958 Niger became an autonomous republic of the French Community and gained independence on August 3, 1960. Hamani Diori became the first president .

The Security Council announced that it had examined Niger's admission as a new member of the United Nations and recommended that the UN General Assembly approve it.

Niger joined the United Nations on September 20, 1960.
