The UN Security Council Resolution 136 is a resolution that the United Nations Security Council voted unanimously in the 864th meeting on May 31 1960th It dealt with the admission of Togo as a new member in the United Nations .
background
After the First World War, the eastern part of the German colony of Togo , which made up about two thirds of the area with the entire coast to France ( French Togoland ), the western part to Great Britain ( British Togoland ) as a League of Nations mandate . The de facto administration was in the Gold Coast . After the Second World War , it became a UN trust territory .
In 1957 British Togoland joined the now independent Ghana . The French part received autonomy from France in 1955 . On April 27, 1960, Togo finally gained full independence; first head of state was Sylvanus Olympio .

The Security Council announced that it had examined Togo's admission as a new member of the United Nations and recommended that the UN General Assembly approve admission.
