The Resolution 139 of the UN Security Council is a resolution that the United Nations Security Council voted unanimously in the 869th meeting on June 28 1960th She dealt with the admission of the Mali Federation as a new member in the United Nations .

The Mali Federation was founded in January 1959 by the former French colonies of French Sudan (now the Republic of Mali ) and Senegal . Originally, Upper Volta (later Burkina Faso ) and Dahomey (later Benin ) also joined the federation, but withdrew again in March 1959 and instead joined the Sahel-Benin Union . The Mali Federation gained independence on June 20, 1960.

The Security Council announced that it had examined the admission of the Mali Federation as a new member of the United Nations and recommended that the UN General Assembly approve admission.

Subsequently

The Mali Federation dissolved again on August 20, 1960 and divided into Senegal and Mali. The Security Council accepted the admission of the two states with Resolution 158 and 159 .
