The Rhine port of Germersheim is located about 4 km north of the district town of Germersheim , Rhineland-Palatinate and is orographically on the left at Rhine kilometer 385.35. Gravel was already being dredged there before 1939 . In the 1960s, the city of Germersheim decided to build an inland port at this point .
Data
The water surface is 59 ha and the shore length around 5 km. The connection to the motorway network is via the federal highways B 9 and B 35 . There are large free industrial areas directly on the port area. There are scheduled ship and rail connections to the overseas ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp .
The port with an area of 85 hectares is equipped with four container gantries with a lifting capacity of up to 67 t and five crane systems with a lifting capacity of up to 35 t. The length of the quay is 985 m. Every year around 26,000 railway wagons run between the harbor and Germersheim station on the 3.2 km long harbor track. Around 1,000 container ships call at the port each year. Large open spaces, silos and warehouses are available for storage.
Handling companies
Freyer Port Logistics loads bulk and general cargo on the north bank. There are three crane systems with a lifting capacity of up to 50 tons and several wheel loaders . Rhine gravel , sand, chippings, pumice , wood and scrap can be stored in the 90,000 m² open space. Silos with a total capacity of 7500 t and halls are available for fertilizers and grain .
The container terminal has been operated by Contargo Network Service CNS since December 1, 2010 . Free space for 1000 containers is available for storage. Other handling companies are DP World Germersheim GmbH & Co. KG, Germersheim. It offers the handling and storage of all types of containers and six times a week a direct train connection to Rotterdam and three times to Antwerp. In 2011, 970,000 tonnes and 226,256 TEU in trimodal transport were loaded.
Other users of the port
In addition to large commercial shipping and the Rhineland-Palatinate water police station, there are also several recreational shipping facilities right at the port . There are the Motoryachtclub Germersheim and the Motorboot Sportverein Germersheim with their own jetties and club houses.
