Rhett Rakhshani (born March 6, 1988 in Huntington Beach , California ) is an American - Iranian ice hockey player , who was last under contract with the Malmö Redhawks in the Svenska Hockeyligan .
Career
Rhett Rakhshani began his career as a hockey player in the USA Hockey National Team Development Program , for which he was active from 2004 to 2006 in the junior division of the North American Hockey League . He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2006 in the fourth round as a total of 100th player by the New York Islanders . First, however, he attended the University of Denver for four years , for whose ice hockey team he played parallel in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association . With his team, he won the WCHA championship in 2008. He has also received numerous personal awards. Towards the end of the 2009/10 season he made his professional ice hockey debut for the Islanders' farm team , the Bridgeport Sound Tigers , when he prepared two goals in a total of ten games in the American Hockey League . In the following season he played his first two games in the National Hockey League for the Islanders, but spent the rest of the season again with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. There he was able to convince and was allowed to participate in the AHL All-Star Classic . He was also elected to the AHL All-Rookie Team . Also in the 2011/12 season he ran only five games in the NHL for the Islanders, while he was regularly used in the AHL farm team at the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
In June 2012 Rakhshani signed a contract for the 2012/13 season with the HV71 from the Elitserien . After one season there, he moved in April 2013 as part of the League to the Växjö Lakers and won with the team in the 2014/15 season the Championship , with Rakshani with eight goals and four assists in 12 playoff games a significant share of the Had won the title. In the summer of 2015, the attacker signed a contract with league rivals Linköpings HC , a year later he moved within the Swedish league to the Malmö Redhawks .
International
For the United States , Rakhshani took part in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2005 , the U18 Junior World Championship in 2006 and the U20 Junior World Championship in 2008 . At the U18 World Cup in 2006, he and his team won the gold medal.
