Rhodobryum (German rose moss ) is a genus of deciduous moss from the family Bryaceae .
features
The subterranean creeping primary trunks arise from upright shoots that have conspicuously large, rosette-like leaves at the top, but below them are only covered with much smaller, flaky leaves. The large crested leaves are ovate to tongue-shaped and toothed at the tip. The strong vein ends just before or in the tip of the leaf or can also emerge. The species are diocesan . The spore capsule on the elongated seta is built similar to that of the Bryum species, horizontal to hanging and cylindrical, with a double peristome , with the outer and inner peristome teeth being about the same length.
Systematics
Worldwide there are 34 species with a sub-cosmopolitan distribution. There are two types in Europe:
- Rhodobryum ontariense , Fels-Rosenmoos
- Rhodobryum roseum , Rosettiges Rosenmoos
