Ricardo Castro (pianist)
Ricardo Castro (* 1964 in Brazil ) is a Brazilian concert pianist and teacher at the Lausanne School of Music ( Switzerland ).
Life
Castro received his first piano lessons from Esther Cardoso at the age of three. As an exception, at the age of five he was accepted at the University of Bahia University of Music , where he gave his first piano recital at the age of eight and his first orchestral concert at the age of ten.
He began studying at the Geneva Conservatory with Maria Tipo in 1984 and graduated in 1987, where he received the soloist diploma with distinction. Castro then began to study with Dominique Merlet in Paris . In 1987 he won second prize in the International ARD Competition in Munich and in 1993 first prize in the Leeds International Piano Competition .
Castro lives in Europe and has played with the successful orchestras City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra , Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra , BBC Symphony Orchestra , English Chamber Orchestra and the Orchester de la Suisse Romande with conductors Sir Simon Rattle , Hans Graf and Yakov Kreizberg .
Between 1995 and 2000 he recorded several pieces for BMG - Arte Nova , such as For example, the recital by Franz Liszt and the Dante Sonata as well as Noches en los jardines de España by Manuel de Falla , sonatas by Mozart and five CDs with pieces by Chopin .
In 2001, Martha Argerich invited Castro to the festival at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires , and a year later to the Martha Argerich Meeting Point in Lugano . He was also at numerous European festivals such as B. the Vienna Music Summer .
Between 2003 and 2004 Castro started a joint project with Maria João Pires . As a duo they have been to Madrid , Zurich , São Paulo , Brussels and Vienna, among others . A double album with Schubert pieces was released in 2005 by Deutsche Grammophon .
Castro has been Artistic Director of the Bahia Symphony Orchestra since the beginning of 2007 and founded NEOJIBÁ ( Núcleos Estaduais de Orquestras Juvenis e Infantis da Bahia ) in cooperation with the youth orchestra system FESNOJIV . He continues to teach at the University of Music in Lausanne .
