Ricardo Manuel da Silva Fernandes (born January 14, 1978 in Guimarães ), known as Ricardo Fernandes , is a Portuguese football player . The central defender has been with União Torcatense since summer 2016.
Career
Ricardo Fernandes' career began with AD Fafe in the Segunda Divisão Portuguesa , the third-highest division in Portugal. After two years, he was given the opportunity in 1999 to move to SC Salgueiros in the SuperLiga . There he developed into a regular player in his first season . After relegation in 2002 , he went with the club in the second division , but could not achieve direct promotion.
In 2003 Fernandes left Salgueiros and moved back to newly promoted Moreirense FC in the SuperLiga. After relegation in the first year, he rose again at the end of the 2004/05 season . He then joined the league competitor Nacional Funchal in Madeira . With the club he surprisingly managed a fifth place in the following season and the associated qualification for the UEFA Cup , where he was able to gain first experience in the European Cup despite being eliminated in the first round.
In the summer of 2008 Fernandes left Funchal after three years and moved to the Romanian League 1 to Rapid Bucharest . There he became a regular player in the first season , but then missed almost the entire first half of the 2009/10 season , but got his regular place back in the second half . In both years, the club narrowly missed qualifying for the Europa League . After not playing a single game in the first half of the 2010/11 season , Fernandes returned to Rio Ave FC in his Portuguese homeland in January 2011 . He was also not used there and moved to Moreirense FC in the Segunda Liga in summer 2011 . With his new club, he made promotion to the Primeira Liga at the end of the 2011/12 season . After relegation in 2013 , he returned to his hometown club AD Fafe. After three years in the Campeonato Nacional de Seniores , he moved to the lower class União Torcatense in summer 2016.
