Riccardo Ruotolo

Riccardo Ruotolo (born November 15, 1928 in Andria ; † August 1, 2012 ) was auxiliary bishop in Manfredonia-Vieste-San Giovanni Rotondo .

Life

Riccardo Ruotolo attended the regional seminar in Molfetta and studied theology at the Theological Faculty of St. Louis in Posillipo (Facoltà Teologica di San Luigi a Posillipo Naples). After his licentiate , he was ordained a priest on July 15, 1951 by his uncle Giuseppe Ruotolo , Bishop of Ugento-Santa Maria di Leuca . He received degrees in Canon Law from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (1955) and Law from the Catholic University of Milan (1956). He was a Rota lawyer and vice-president of the Ecclesiastical Court of Puglia.

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Castulo and auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Manfredonia-Vieste-San Giovanni Rotondo on December 6, 1995 . The Pope personally donated him episcopal ordination on January 6, 1996 ; Co-consecrators were the Archbishops of the Curia Giovanni Battista Re , Official of the State Secretariat , and Jorge María Mejía , Secretary of the Congregation for Bishops . On February 28, 2004, John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.

For 25 years (1978-2003) he was special envoy and delegate of the Holy See and president of the “Fondazione casa Sollievo della Sofferenza, Opera di San Pio da Pietrelcina”.

The exsequies took place on August 2, 2012. Ruotolo was an honorary citizen of the city of San Giovanni Rotondo .
