Richard Mayer (politician)

Richard Mayer (born June 22, 1925 in Göllsdorf ; † June 6, 2016 in Albstadt ) was a German politician ( SPD ). From 1956 to 1974 he was mayor of the municipality of Aistaig and from 1972 to 1976 a member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg .

Life

After attending grammar school in Rottweil , Mayer began training at the Higher Administrative School at Haigerloch Castle , which he had to interrupt when he was drafted into the Wehrmacht in 1943. He took part in World War II as a soldier and was last captured by the French, from which he was released at the end of 1947. He then continued his professional training, which he completed with a degree in administrative management. From 1948 he worked as a clerk at the Rottweil District Office and at the city administrations in Oberndorf am Neckar and Kirchheim unter Teck .

Mayer joined the SPD. He was elected mayor of the municipality of Aistaig in August 1956 and again in September 1964. He held the office of mayor from December 1956 until the incorporation of Aistaigs into Oberndorf am Neckar at the turn of the year 1974/75. During his tenure he was from 1960 to 1966 chairman of the water supply association Kleiner Heuberg and from 1968 to 1975 chairman of the wastewater association Aistaig. He was also a member of the district council in the Rottweil district from 1965 and there from 1971 to 1979 spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group. In addition, he was a member of the Baden-Württemberg state parliament from 1972 to 1976. In the state parliament he represented the second mandate of constituency 61 (Rottweil).

From 1976 until his retirement in 1988, Mayer worked for Schramberger Wohnungsbau GmbH, initially as commercial director and from 1978 as managing director.

Richard Mayer was married twice and had two children. He last lived in Albstadt , where he died at the age of 90.
