Richard Needon

Karl Richard Needon (born November 3, 1861 in Dresden , † August 5, 1931 in Bautzen ) was a German educator, historian and local researcher.

Life

Needon attended grammar school in Bautzen for six years from 1872 , then for three years the royal grammar school in Dresden-Neustadt . From 1881 he studied philology and history at the University of Leipzig , where he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD .

In Leipzig he was a probandus at the local grammar school in 1886, then vicar in Wurzen and Zwickau , where he became a grammar school teacher in 1890. In 1894 he came to Bautzen at the grammar school, where he then taught for 30 years. In 1906 he was awarded the title of professor. In 1916 he was promoted to the senior lecturer and in 1920 to the senior lecturer.

From 1911 to 1922 Needon was the head of the Bautzen City Library .

Needon was mainly concerned with research on Saxon history , especially with Upper Lusatia and the history of the city of Bautzen . In addition to monographs, he published numerous articles in the Bautzener Geschichtshefte , in the Bautzener Tageblatt , Neue Lausitzische Magazin and the Oberlausitzer Heimatzeitung .

Richard Needon suffered from a worsening heart condition and died on August 5, 1931 in Bautzen. He was laid to rest on August 8th next to his wife Marie († 1929) in the cemetery of the diving church .
