Richard Ott (priest)
Richard Ott SSCC (born January 26, 1928 in Mainz , † March 17, 2008 in Werne ) was a German religious priest and teacher .
Life
Ott was born Erhard Ott on January 26, 1928 as the third of ten children in Mainz-Mombach and attended the Rabanus-Maurus-Gymnasium in Mainz. He then began studying Latin , Greek , French and philosophy at the University of Mainz . In 1953 he entered the novitiate of the Arnstein Fathers , where he took his religious vows on September 29, 1954 . He received his ordination on October 20, 1957 in Simpelveld ( Netherlands ), where he was studying theology at the Philosophical-Theological College of the Arnstein Fathers. Thereafter, Ott was a member of the order of the Arnstein Fathers (lat. Congregatio Sacrorum Cordium Jesu et Mariae necnon adorationis perpetuae Sanctissimi Sacramenti Altaris , SS.CC.). Since 1957 he was a member of the German Leper Aid Organization .
From 1958 to 1993 he taught Latin, Greek, French and Catholic religion at the private Johannesgymnasium of the Arnstein Fathers in Lahnstein . Between 1968 and 1972 he held the position of superior of the Johanneskloster in Lahnstein.
After retiring as a teacher in 1993, he continued to work as a pastor. From June 2006 until his death in March 2008 he lived in retirement in Werne ( Westphalia ) in a branch of the Arnstein Fathers. There he celebrated his golden jubilee as a priest on October 20, 2007.
Act
In Lahnstein he was responsible for the Community of Christian Life (GCL). He led the student exchange with the partner school College St. Etienne in Châlons-en-Champagne and was the initiator of a local action group of the DAHW ( German Leprosy and Tuberculosis Aid eV ) Richard Ott organized numerous collection and donation campaigns. In almost 50 years he collected 2.5 million euros for the DAHW, of which he was an honorary member. He was acquainted with the leprosy doctor Ruth Pfau .
In 1976 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon by Federal President Walter Scheel . In 1989 he was awarded the Georg plaque by the Bishop of Limburg, Franz Kamphaus .
