Richard "Molly" Schauffele (born January 26, 1903 in Cannstatt , † February 5, 1983 in Stuttgart ) was a German athlete , football player , sports official and local politician ( CDU ).
Life
The studied civil engineer played soccer at VfB Stuttgart in his youth and switched to athletics at the age of 25 .
From 1919 to 1927 Schauffele played soccer for VfB Stuttgart, with which he became soccer champion from Württemberg and Baden in 1927. However, the team did not reach the final round of the German championship.
1927 also marked the end of the football career for Schauffele, who from now on concentrated exclusively on athletics. With a height of more than 2 meters, Schauffele was an absolutely exceptional athlete. He took part in athletics competitions up to the age of 40 and has more than 40 Baden-Württemberg championship titles in discus , javelin and shot put . In 1935 he became German athletics team champion with the Stuttgarter Kickers.
Offices and functions
- From 1948 to 1950 Schauffele was President of the Stuttgarter Kickers.
- From 1951 to 1954 and from 1959 to 1965 Schauffele was a founding member, chairman and president of the Württemberg Athletics Association (WLV).
- From 1954 until his death in 1983 Schauffele was also honorary president of the WLV. In this role he played a key role in bringing the first final of the European Athletics Cup in 1965 and the continental battle between Europe and America in the Neckar Stadium in Stuttgart in 1969 .
- From 1953 to 1965 Schauffele was a member of the municipal council of the city of Stuttgart and most recently chairman of the CDU parliamentary group.
- During his sporting career, Schauffele was already active in the family's construction company and travertine quarry , which he took over management together with his brother in 1926 after his father's death. After the Second World War, the brothers also took over the Schwäbische Baugesellschaft mbH in 1946 , which a little later became R. & W. Schauffele GmbH was renamed and from 1958 first as Richard Schauffele KG and then Richard Schauffele GmbH & Co. KG and was managed by Schauffele alone until his son joined in 1971.
Sporting successes
- 1927 with the VfB Stuttgart Württemberg-Baden football champion
- 1928 qualified as a participant for the Amsterdam Olympic Games in the shot put. He could not start due to injury.
- 1935 German team champion in athletics with the Stuttgarter Kickers
- Over 40 times Württemberg athletics champion in the shot put, discus throw, javelin throw and sling ball
- 1936 as chairman for the throwing disciplines at the Olympic Summer Games in Berlin
