Richard Scheerer

Richard Scheerer (born June 29, 1887 in Tuttlingen , † October 18, 1982 in Lahnstein ) was a German ophthalmologist and university professor .

Life

After graduating from high school, Scheerer studied medicine at the universities of Munich , Tübingen , Berlin and Freiburg . He completed his studies in 1913 with the academic degree of Dr. med. from. After years of assistantship combined with training as an ophthalmologist , Scheerer completed his habilitation as a private lecturer in ophthalmology in Tübingen in 1921 .

In 1926 he was appointed associate professor and in 1934 full professor of ophthalmology. In addition, he was director of the municipal eye department at the Katharinenhospital in Bad Cannstatt .

Scheerer dealt in particular with the vascular diseases of the retina and the anatomy of the nearsighted eye .

In 1926 he was awarded the von Graefe Prize named after Albrecht von Graefe .
