Christian Wilhelm Ernst Richard Scholz (born December 29, 1860 in Hanover ; † 1939 there ) was a German painter and illustrator.

Life

Richard Scholz was the son of the theater director, conductor, conductor and composer Bernhard Scholz and Marie Luise Seyler.

He studied with Ernst Hildebrand from 1877 to 1880 at the Karlsruhe Art College and became a member of the Corps Saxonia Karlsruhe . His work was influenced by the painter Karl Gussow , whom he met after following his teacher Ernst Hildebrand to the Berlin Art Academy in 1880 . Scholz was married to Agnes, a daughter of his colleague Hans Gude , with whose son, Nils Gude , he lived for a while in a house in Berlin.

Professionally, he went to Dresden in 1894 , to Munich in 1898 , to Gaschurn ( Vorarlberg ) in 1909 and later to Munich as a professor and painter.

Among other things, he had illustrated many children's books, such as an edition by Hansel and Gretel . for the Mainz publishing house Josef Scholz.
