Richard Tsang

Richard Tsang (* 1952 in Hong Kong ) is a Chinese composer , conductor and music producer . He has served as Chairman of the Hong Kong Composers' Guild , Vice President of the ACL and President of ISCM .

Life

Tsang studied music at the Chinese University of Hong Kong until 1976 and at the University of Hull until 1978 . From 1979 to 1983 he taught at the Hong Kong Conservatory. From 1983 to 1993 he was chairman of the Hong Kong Composers' Guild . From 1984 to 1986 he taught at the Chinese University. From 1984 to 1994 he was a music advisor to the Hong Kong City Council. From 1985 to 1988 he was Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the World Music Days in Hong Kong. From 1985 to 1993 he was an advisor to the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. From 1986 to 1988 he was on the board of directors of the Hong Kong Arts Center and from 1986 to 1990 of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Society. From 1986 to 1994 he was chairman of RTHK Radio 4 and also on the board of directors of the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong . In 1990 he founded the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. From 1990 to 1996 he was Vice President of the International Society for New Music and from 1990 to 1991 Vice Chairman of the Asian Composers League . In 1991 he headed the Mozart Competition in Hong Kong. In 1992 he founded Musicarama in Hong Kong. From 1996 to 1997 he was the producer of Classic FM in the UK. In 1999 he earned a Ph.D. from the University of York . In 2002 he organized the ISCM World Music Days 2002 in Hong Kong. From 2002 to 2008 he was President of the International Society for New Music. From 2003 to 2009 he taught at Kingston University . From 2006 to 2008 he was a Fellow for Composition at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts . Since 2009 he has been a professor at the Hong Kong Institute of Education.
